Plastics and the environment
Exploring its journey from a ‘niche’ topic to being a mainstay of the current news agenda, leading environmental campaigner, Guardian writer and One Show journalist Lucy Siegle explores the topic of ‘Plastics and the environment’ with broadcaster Andrea Catherwood.
With her early influences from her forward-looking ‘amateur ecologist’ grandfather, Lucy talks about her passion for the environment and shares her thoughts on the practical contributions we can make in our daily lives.
Calling on many of the themes of her book ‘Turning the tide’, Lucy discusses how long the world has to make a difference to the marine plastics pandemic, the importance of recycling, the limitations of landfill, and the work that our recycling industry does on our behalf.
More generally, Lucy also discusses, her thoughts on the government’s 25 year environmental plan, President Trump’s stance on the Paris Accord, and oil-rich Saudi Arabia’s commitment to and investment in renewable energy.
